Today is day 610 for me, and like you, I'm so incredibly grateful that I did not fall into a one more year/bonus/project trap. In part, I credit you and Eric with helping me take the leap. Yes I'd been saving and preparing for many years, but pulling the trigger is scary. Seeing real people similar to me, on a very path, as me gave much needed confidence. Thanks again for sharing.
Congrats on the successful slow travel trip! That is definitely something I'm looking forward to in the future.
Congrats on more than 600 days! You did all the hard work yourself, but it's wonderful to hear that our words were helpful in some way to you. There's always more hiking to be done and we had lots of wonderful treks on our recent road trip. But indeed, more long walks are very likely in our future. Best wishes to you, Bill!
Glad the road trip was successful and good to hear an update on your journey. Two sides of FI kicked off my FIRE journey, I’ll always be grateful to you and Eric for guiding me along that path! Cheers
just commenting so you know someone is reading....
I'll be hitting my 4 year FIREd anniversary in Jan. envious of your 30 day road trip. I can't get my wife onboard for that long away from home.
I kinda miss 2sides but totally get why you guys put a pause on it. There are only so many things you can discuss on FIRE until you just run out of things to say.
How did you drive, was it a van or a your car, a rented car? Also, did you bring your pets? Very curious as this is something I should do but never put it into action. You said hotels and air bnb? Also, I am getting my private pilot license so that is taking up a lot of time and money. The FAA written exam requires a to. Of knowledge and studying. As smart as you are, I am surprised you never took that test as I remember an early picture of you flying a Cessna.
Hi John! good news, we just published an ep about this (also as a podcast if that's your pref): https://youtu.be/-EbpT0vf-Is
We did a one-way rental because I flew out to NY to spend time with family and we started the rental from there.
Love that you're getting your license! Yes, I've taken some lessons but decided that at least for now I'm happiest being a passenger and an enthusiast :)
Thanks for sharing Jason. It’s always fun to get an email with one of your new posts! Ahhhh slow travel - a recent frequent topic of conversation with my wife. Inching closer to retirement, we can’t help but get more & more excited about the scenarios we discuss. River cruise in Europe, slow travel in US without a timeframe, and all flavors of spontaneous trips without the restrictive limitations of a job - looking forward to it all.
While relaxing post breakfast, the Two Sides of FI new episode email arrived. “What is it?” asked my wife after I evidently proclaimed ‘YESSSSSSS’ out loud. So funny.
Now I’m off to the basement to do some type of workout while I listen/watch the new episode, just as I did through COVID and all the subsequent episodes since you & Eric started. So appreciate you sharing your experiences - continued thanks.
One question - Might there be one more episode with your spouses left in the tank…? Completely understandable if there’s not, but just had to ask. :-)
Thanks, Grant! I hope you enjoy the episode. Still working on getting another spouses episode together at some point - just gotta convince you know who :)
